Cashier in court for stealing 141,898,337 cedis

Sekondi, April 21, GNA - A Sekondi District Magistrate's Court on Thursday granted Daniel Ayitey, a bailiff and revenue cashier at the Western Regional Lands Commission, 50 million cedis bail with three sureties to be justified for stealing 141,898,337 cedis belonging to the Commission.

Ayitey's plea was not taken and would re-appear on May 8. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Andam Okyere said between January and September last year, when accounts of the Commission were audited, the accused could not account for 141,898,337 cedis he collected as ground rent.

Police Inspector Okyere said during interrogation, the accused admitted the offence and promised to refund the amount by May this year.
