Chainsaw operator charged for stabbing

Kwabena Depkeh, a Chainsaw operator who stabbed one Atta Fosu at Taifa with an offensive weapon during a fight at a drinking bar, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court.

The accused was charged with using offensive weapon contrary to Section 75 of Acts 29/60. He pleaded not guilty to the offense.

The Court presided over by Mr. Kofi Seshi admitted the accused to bail in the sum of GHc10,000 with three sureties.

The Prosecutor, DSP Patrick Morkeh, presenting the case, stated that the complainant, Opuni Karikari, is a businessman at Taifa junction whilst the accused, Kwabena Depkeh, who is a Chainsaw Operator lives at Taifa Railways.

He said on April 18, 2014 at about 1500 hours at Asante Akyem drinking spot, along the Taifa Railway line, the accused and the victim, Atta Fosu, fought at the bar and the owner of the bar, Frank Kyei separated them.

He said on the same day at about 1900 hours, Fosu not satisfied with his actions, laid ambush with a stone near the accused person's house to attack him.

DSP Morkeh stated that immediately the accused emerged from the house, Fosu threw the stone at the accused but missed.

He said the accused became annoyed with Fosu’s action and both men engaged in a serious fight.

He said during the fight, the accused used an object to stab the left rib side of Fosu, who sustained a cut and started bleeding profusely.

DSP Morkeh said the complainant was called to the scene and rushed Fosu to the Achimota hospital, but they were transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital for further treatment.

He said on April 19, 2014, the accused was arrested and handed over to the Achimota Mile 7 Police for investigations.

He said Fosu is still on admission at the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital.
