The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police are investigating a case in which two people allegedly shot a 35-year-old chainsaw operator to death in Praso forest, in the Berekum District.
Briefing media personnel on the incident, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, Regional Police Public Relations Officer, (PRO) said on October 26, one Kwadwo Obeng of Brenyekwa in the Berekum District, brother of the Kwaku Kyere, deceased reported to the Berekum police about the disappearance of his brother.
He said the complainant told the police that on January 1, Rufai Yakubu 25, and Kwabena Kuma alias Kobi, 26 both from Berekum approached his brother who was a chainsaw operator that they have a tree in the forest that they want to sell. They invited him to go with them to find out whether he would be interested in purchasing it.
The PRO said the two together with the deceased went to the forest, but Kyere never returned.
ASP Tawiah said police investigations based on the report led to the arrest of Kuma at Chiraa in the Sunyani West District and upon interrogation Kuma confessed to the police that Kyere was shot dead in the forest and he and his accomplice took his motor bike away.
He said Kuma led the police to the forest and showed them the spot where Kyere was shot. The alleged body which had decomposed beyond recognition was also found at the site.
ASP Tawiah said Kuma is in Police custody assisting them with investigations while the other accomplice, Yakubu is at large.
