Charles Donkor, a 42-year-old land guard suspected to have played a leading role in the murder of Nana Okotoako Kofi Mankata II, 54, has been arrested by the police

The late Nana Mankata II, acting chief of Chinto-Doboro and his driver, Nana Kwame, 38, were allegedly killed in front of his (chief’s) house at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

Charles Donkor, according to police reports, was with a group of land guards numbering about six and operating at a town called Aklaman near Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region.

A foreign pistol, which contained 13 rounds of ammunition, was found in the bush where the suspect was apprehended.

He has since been handed over to the Homicide Unit of the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for investigations to continue.

Briefing the media, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Accra Regional Police Commander, said on April 30, 2015, the Amasaman police received a distress call that a group of land guards numbering about six, were operating on a land at Aklaman and dispatched a team of policemen to the place.

When the suspected land guards, including Charles Donkor, spotted the police approaching, they tried to escape but the police managed to apprehend Charles Donkor.

While in police custody assisting in investigations, it came to light that Charles was wanted in connection with the killing of Nana Mankata II and his driver.

It will be recalled that in March this year, the acting chief of Chinto-Doboro and his driver were gunned down by unknown assailants at Nsawam-Adoagyiri when returning to his house from a funeral.

The assailants, who reportedly wore masks and rode a motorbike, allegedly shot the chief and his driver in front his house and bolted.

The police officer indicated that the two were shot at close range and when the Nsawam police visited the scene around 9:30 pm, the deceased persons were found lying dead in a pool of blood.

According to police reports, the late chief and his family lived in rented accommodations at Adoagyiri.

Nana Mankata II and the driver went to a funeral at Fotobi, a village near Nsawam, and returned very late in the night when they met their untimely death.

Their bodies were sent to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
