Accra, July 15, GNA - A contractor who allegedly pulled down a building worth 15 million cedis at Okpoi Gonno in Accra belonging to Mr Albert Kweku Obbin, Member of Parliament for Prestea Hunni Valley, appeared at a Circuit Court in Accra on Friday charged with unlawfully causing damage.
Oblie Armah pleaded not guilty and the court admitted him to 100 million cedis bail with a surety to reappear on August 25. The case as presented by Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr George Abavelim was that in 2002, Mr Obbin acquired a plot of land at Okpoi Gonno, off the Spintex Road and began building a five-bedroom house in March 2003.
The Prosecutor said in February 2004 when work on the building had reached lintel level, Armah and his workers visited the site. The Prosecution said Armah claimed ownership of the land saying the MP had encroached on it and hence pulled down portions of the house estimated at 15 million cedis.
A complaint was lodged with the Police, who in turn arrested some of the workers of the accused. The workers led the Police to arrest Armah.
