The Kumasi-based Gender/Violence Court has convicted a man over his failure to live up to his responsibility to his three-year child.

Kwabena Oduro, 40, was fined GH¢ 500.00 and was ordered to pay a cash of GH¢200.00 to the ex-wife, Ms Sabina Animah, as compensation.

The court, presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman-Budu, directed that the convict should remit a cash of GH¢200.00 every month to his former wife for the upkeep of the child.

Oduro would spend six months in prison, in default.

Police Chief Inspector Philip Yao Bebli said the convict and Sabina were in a relationship for four years, leading to the birth of the girl.

The woman has other children from a previous marriage but Oduro has never been comfortable with the step children and so insulted and beat them up at the least provocation.

His conduct often led to a quarrel with the wife, culminating in his walking out of the relationship.

The prosecution said for 15 months he refused to give money towards the upkeep of the little girl, compelling Sabina to report the matter to the Police Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit.
