Court fines husband for beating wife

Apam (C/R), May 8, GNA - The Apam District magistrate's court on Friday fined a 45-year old farmer from Gomoa Gyankrom GH¢180 for beating his wife mercilessly and wounding her in the process.

Kobla Tekpor pleaded guilty and would go to prison for six months if he fails to pay the fine.


The court also ordered Tekpor to pay a compensation of GH¢250 to the woman, Madam Doris Tordzro to defray her medical bills.


In prosecuting him, Police Chief Inspector Williams Yeboah told the court that Tekpor and Tordzro are a married couple living together at Gomoa Gyankrom near Gomoa Mprumen in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.


He said on April 7 2011 at about the accused collected the victim's torchlight to visit Gomoa Mprumem.

He said on his return, when the woman requested for her torchlight, the man become angry and started to beat her. He beat her with a stick till she became unconscious.


The prosecution said the woman was rushed to the Apam Catholic Hospital where she was admitted for four days.


The matter was later reported to the Apam police and Tepkor was arrested and arraigned before the court.
