Court fines two women for assault

Ejisu (Ash), Feb 5, GNA - The Ejisu magistrate court on Wednesday fined two women, Barikisu Alhassan and Afua Rose, 900,000 cedis each for assault.

The two, who pleaded guilty to the charge, will go to prison for one year each in default.

The court, ordered the accused persons to compensate the complainant with 400,000 cedis each from the fine and pay the rest to the court.

Police Inspector Nkansah Twumasi-Ankrah told the court, presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that Rita Opoku, the complainant, is a trader who resides at the Ejisu Zongo where the accused also reside. He said at about 1600 hours on January 5, this year, while the complainant was passing in front of the house of the accused persons, they started insulting her and told her that her hair-do was like a police cap and that she dresses only on Sundays.

He said the following day, the accused persons did the same thing to the complainant but was prevailed upon by one Boateng to ignore them. Inspector Twumasi-Ankrah said on January 8, the accused persons did the same thing to the complainant and so this time she asked them why they were doing that to her.

The accused persons, he said, became offended and pounced on her and gave her a sound thrashing after which she made a report to the Ejisu police who gave her a medical form to attend the hospital and the accused persons were arrested later.
