Asamankese, July 26, GNA - Three men described by the Police as tricksters who claimed to have the ability to double money have appeared before the Asamankese Circuit court.

Mawuku Bernard, 20, who pleaded guilty was sentenced to seven years in jail in hard labour.

His accomplices Cudjoe Amewugah, 30, and Osmanu Tahiru, 22, who pleaded not guilty were remanded in prison custody to re-appear on August 27.

Prosecuiting, Police Chief Inspector Joseph Idan told the court that sometime last month, the three men called on the complainant, a driver at Asamankese Beposo and demanded two million cedis with a promise of doubling it for him.

The three, on receiving the money, bolted, but the driver had information that they were hiding at an Asamankese hotel and were duping other people.

He therefore informed the police who moved to the hotel and found them busily conducting their criminal business. They were therefore arrested and when their bags were searched, two bundled of papers cut to the size of 10,000 cedis notes were found with the top of the bundles covered with 10,000-cedi notes. Inspector Idan said the three suspects were escorted to the Police station together with the exhibits where they admitted the offence.
