An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday granted bail in the sum of GH¢ 70,000 with three sureties without justification to one Habiba Rahman, a trader, who is standing trial for allegedly defrauding by false pretence.

Habiba, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was also asked by the court to make a deposit of GH¢ 10,000. She is to reappear before the court, presided over by Madam Audrey Kocurie on August 18.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Isaac Agbemehia, told the court that the complainant Madam Georgina Obeng, is a businesswoman, and a resident of Ashongman Estate, Accra, while the accused person is a trader and a resident of Madina.

He said Habiba who claimed to a large tract of land located at Dodowa, in 2012, sold 20 acres to the complainant at GH¢ 13,000.00 per acre. The prosecution said the accused person upon showing the land to the complainant, collected GH¢ 32,000 as part payment, but she did not prepare documents on the land for the complainant, since she had no title to it.

Police Chief Inspector Agbemehia said the complainant, realizing that she had been defrauded, reported the matter to the police and the accused person was arrested.

He told the court that investigations proved that the accused person had no title to the land. She has since her arrest refunded GH¢ 3,000.00 to the police.
