Court grants two persons bail

An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday granted bail in the sum GH? 600,000.00, with three sureties each to two persons alleged to have conspired and stolen GH? 470,000.00 belonging to Man capital Financial Company.

The court also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a third accomplice now at large. The two, Emmanuel Odoom and Isaac Quainoo, both pleaded not guilty, while Joyce Oduro is at large.

The facts of the case as presented by Chief Inspector Tassan are that the complainant is the Chief Executive Office of Man Capital Financial Company and resides at Dome, while Joyce was the investment officer of the company and Emmanuel and Isaac are workers of the Registrar Generals Department.

He said in January 2013, Joyce collected a cheque with the face value for GH? 70,000.00 from one Nana Gyamena a witness in the case in the name of the complainant's company.

He said the three registered a company in the name Mancapital Equity, in which Emmanuel and Joyce are directors, and later opened an account with the UT bank and deposited the GH? 70,000.00 belonging to the complainant.

The prosecution said the accused persons subsequently collected cheques to the tune of GH? 470,000.00 also belonging to the complainant and deposited it in the Mancapital Equity account.

Chief Inspector Tassan told the court that the three registered two additional companies namely Nhyira Logistics and Blessed Investment in which Isaac and Joyce became directors to Blessed Investments while Joyce and her 11 year-old son became directors to Nhyira Logistics.

He said the accused persons used part of the money to purchase a Sprinter Benz bus, one Hyundai H100 and one JAC Truck and registered same in the name of Nyirah Logistics. He said part of the money was also used to acquire an office apartment at Tesano to operate Blessed Investment Company.

The prosecution said in March, complainant was alerted when an amount of GH-?16,000.00 he deposited was mistakenly placed into the accounts of the accused persons.

A report was made to the police and the accused persons were arrested. The vehicles valued by STC at GH? 73,000.00 were impounded during investigation. He told the court that the accused persons could not assist the police to retrieve the rest of the money, and Joyce also jumped police enquiry bail.
