Court grants two rapists bail

Cape Coast, July 15, GNA - A shoemaker and a driver's mate have appeared before a Cape Coast circuit court charged with rape and were granted bail in the sum of 100 Ghana cedis each.

Mohammed Quaicoo, 20, a shoemaker, and Alhaji Alhassan, driver's mate, 24, pleaded not guilty and will reappear on July 27.

Police Chief Inspector Daniel Agbe told the court that the two accused persons stay in the same vicinity with the victim who is a16-year-old and a form two pupil.

The prosecution said on June 18 the victim approached Quaicoo to make footwear for her. She had her foot measurement taken and was asked to come for it on the June 20.

Chief Inspector Agbe said on June 20 the victim went to Quaicoo to collect the footwear and he invited her into the bedroom which he shares with Alhaji Alhassan.

When she entered the room the two accused persons offered her some liquid substance which she refused to drink, but they forced her to drink it, pushed her onto their bed and had sexual intercourse with her in turns.

The prosecution said the victim became helpless after the act and the accused persons helped her to reach her house.

Chief Inspector Agbe said the parents of the victim detected changes in her movement and when they questioned her she told them about her ordeal after which she was sent to the hospital where she spent three days.

A report was made to the police and the accused persons were arrested.
