An Accra Circuit Court on Friday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of one Abena Sarfoa Gymah, a Fashion Designer for failing to present herself to court after being granted bail at the last adjourned date.
The court ordered the police to arrest her and provide her in court on July 18.Abena was granted bail at the last adjourned date on charge of threat of death and possession of explosive firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.
The facts of the case as presented by Chief Superintendent of Police Duuti Tuaruka are that the complainant is a driver and resides at Kwabenya whilst the accused person is a fashion designer who lives at Nungua.
He said on June 5, at about 14:30 hours the complainant who was in charge of a Nissan Almera taxi cab and, on his usual rounds was stopped by the accused person at Spintex Community 18 junction.
He said the accused entered the car and directed the complainant to drive through the Spintex road to Nungua Estate, but finally asked the complainant to send her to Nungua Nshorna, where she lives.
The prosecution said on arrival the complainant demanded GH¢30.00 from Abena as the fare for his service rendered, but she objected to the amount charged and insisted she would only pay GH¢20.00.
Chief Superintendent of Police Tuaruka said this resulted into an argument between the two and Abena suddenly became angry and left for her room. She later came out with a pistol and threatened to shoot the complainant.
He said for fear of losing his life, the complainant drove off from the scene and reported the matter to the police. The police moved to the said house in the company of the complainant where they met the accused person.
He told the court that a German made pistol with 35 rounds of live ammunitions were retrieved from the accused person’s room and during investigation she admitted pulling the pistol but told the police that the said pistol is a toy and that she only used it to scare the complainant.
