A 32-year old auto electrician, Yaw Addae has been sentenced to 3 years imprisonment by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for stealing a car battery.

He pleaded guilty to the charge leveled against him.

Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant on June 22 parked his Kia Avella taxi in his fenced house at Wassa Achiase in the Western region and went to bed.

He said the complainant woke up the next day to realize that thieves had broken into his car and made away with the car battery valued at 140 cedis.

Detective Amponsah said the complainant then informed his church members to be on the lookout for any person who offered a car battery for sale.

He said on June 26, one of the complainant’s church members called to inform him that Yaw Addae was offering for sale a car battery and the complainant requested that he should buy the battery for him to inspect it.

When the complainant finally went and checked he detected that it was his stolen battery.

Detective Amponsah said the complainant made a report to the police and the convict was arrested and the stolen item was retrieved.

The Prosecutor said after investigation the convict was charged with the offense.**
