Court jails fraudster four years

A Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced a 23-year-oldman, Daniel Kofi Esson to four years imprisonment in hard labour for defrauding one Livingston Dagadu of GH¢180.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Edward Paddy, told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that, the complainant is a shop attendant at Cyanide, a suburb of Tarkwa while the accused live at Nsuta Wassa.

He said at about 2030 on March 12, the complainant met the accused person at Tarkwa and introduced himself as a stranger from Akwatia in the Eastern Region, who had in his possession diamond and gold which he wanted to sell.

According to Inspector Paddy, the accused then asked the complainant to direct him to a nearby gold buyer.

He said a colleague of the accused emerged at the scene and directed him to a gold dealer.

Inspt Paddy said, after the accused left to the gold buyer his friend engaged the complainant in a conversation and after a few minutes Esson returned and asked his colleague and Mr Dagadu to bring out any amount of money on them for him to multiple it.

The Prosecutor said, the accused collected GH¢380 from the two and managed to escape with the money.

He said at about 1530 hours on May 15, the accused was spotted by the complainant and he took to his heels.

Esson was however arrested and handed over to the police**
