Moses Mlano, 42, an illegal miner (galamsey operator), has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in hard labor by the Tarkwa Circuit Court, for defiling his 12 year-old step daughter.
He was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant Cynthia Ayiah, is a seamstress at Prestea whilst the victim and her mother, who is married to the convict, lives at Afangya in the Prestea Huni/Valley District.
Inspector Amponsah said at about 0400 hours on March 3, the victim’s mother, who is a chop bar operator, left home for work and the convict took advantage of her absence and had sexual intercourse, with her.
He warned her not to reveal the act to anyone.
According to the prosecutor, the victim narrated her ordeal to the complainant, who is her elder sister and her brother Jerry Nkrumah.
He said they both made a report to the police and were issued with a medical form to send the victim to the Prestea Government Hospital for examination.
Inspector Amponsah said during investigation the victim revealed that Mlano on six different occasions had sexual intercourse with her.
The prosecutor said on March 4, a medical report was received from the Medical Superintendent in charge of the hospital, indicating that the victim has been defiled.
