Accra, Dec. 21, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court on Monday sentenced a 30 year-old labourer to five years imprisonment for having sex with a 19 year-old imbecile.
Isaac Hammond pleaded not guilty to the charge of having carnal knowledge of the woman.
The court presided over Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa, however, after the trial, found Hammond guilty and sentenced him accordingly. Inspector Anthony Afetsi, the prosecutor, told the court that at about 1600 hours on June 13, the victim left home at Atico in Accra to attend to nature's call.
The prosecution said when at about 1630 hours she had not returned to the house the complainant, Nana Esi Sam, a trader residing at Atico, and two others started looking for her.
During their search, a neighbour informed them that she saw Hammond pulling the victim to an unknown place and when she asked the convict to leave the victim alone, he did not mind him.
The following day, the complainant and two others continued with their search and were informed by a witness that he saw Hammond having sex with the victim behind a kiosk at Atico Block Factory junction. The witness, the prosecution said, led the complainant and her search team to the spot where they saw the victim sitting on a slab, holding her pant and a pair of slippers while Hammond was seen in the process of wearing his pair of trousers. Hammond was apprehended and handed over to the Police at Odorkor.
