Court jails robber 10 years

Kumasi, March 10, GNA- The Kumasi Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced 23 years old Kabiru Mohammed, alias 'Soldier', who has been linked to a number of armed robberies in the Metropolis and declared wanted by the Police since last June, to 10 years imprisonment. Mohammed who was captured at his hideout at Kronum near Kumasi last Tuesday pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy, assault, stealing and causing unlawful damage.

Police Chief Inspector J.K. Afful told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that Mohammed, a Nigerian born at Oforikrom in Kumasi had been involved in a number of robberies in Kumasi, the last being an attack on one Miss Patience Viadzo, a trader on September 18, 2004 at Oforikrom.

In that operation, he and an accomplice, Kofi Danquah, now serving an eight-year prison sentence robbed the victim of an amount of 4.5 million cedis and a cell phone. They also damaged her wristwatch. Chief Inspector Obimpeh said Mohammed was in the possession of hammer, chisel, amulets and other items he used to carry out his robbery operations.
