Tarkwa, June 16, GNA - A Tarkwa Circuit Court presided over by Mr John Ajet-Nasam has sentenced two farmers to three months imprisonment each in hard labour for assault, causing unlawful damage and obstructing traffic. Francis Kofi Obeng and Kwasi Ayibene pleaded not guilty.

Chief Inspector Jonathan Adotey told the court that on March 16, 2004, Nana Osagyefo Kwamina Enimil VI, Omanhene of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, detailed Nana Kwesi Akrosa and two others with 10 million cedis to pay the school fees of children who were in school in his area. He said after the money had been disbursed to the various schools teachers, some supporters of the Ex-Omanhene attacked the delegation. They mounted roadblocks, forcing the Omanhene's delegation to flee through the forest.

The mob destroyed a house belonging Nana Kwesi Akrosa and damaged the private car that sent them to Benso. Chief Inspector Adotay said Nana Kwamina Bonful II, who was identified as supporter of Osagyefo Enimil, was also beaten. The two accused persons, who were ringleaders, were arrested after a swoop conducted by the Police on April 24, 2004 while others are at large.
