Court of Appeal to determine whether Anas should openly show face in Nyantakyi case

Contrary to earlier reports that award-winning undercover investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was reportedly ordered to unmask in open court in the ongoing criminal prosecution of the former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, or risk having the case dismissed, it has emerged that was not so.

According to new details emerging from the court, the matter was rather with respect to the fact that the Court of Appeal is to determine whether or not the journalist should remove his famous beads mask before he testifies against Nyantakyi.

It can be recalled that in May 2023, the High Court ruled that the renowned journalist would be allowed to testify with his beaded mask.

However, Kwesi Nyantakyi will be allowed to see Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ face in chamber before his testimony.

The court was of the opinion that the identity of Anas, who is a witness in the determination of the criminal trial of the former football administrator, arising from the Number 12 documentary which exposed corruption in Ghana football, is crucial to allow the accused to identify him.

This ruling was delivered by the court following an application by lawyers for Nyantakyi seeking an opportunity to see the real face of Anas Aremeyaw Anas to be able to defend himself.

Anas, after the ruling of the court, indicated that revealing his identity to Nyantakyi could be fatal.
