Court orders new nominations to Accra-Kpando GPRTU

Accra, Aug. 8, GNA - An Accra High Court on Tuesday ordered the Greater Accra Regional Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to nominate two neutral persons to run the affairs of the Accra-Kpando Station Branch of the Union in Accra.

It said the two people to be nominated should run the affairs of the Union until the final determination of the case before it or until the Union conducted an election according to its Constitution. The court was giving its ruling in the case in which Mr Francis Kwaku Adjei and Mr Samuel Mensah, Former Chairman and Secretary, respectively of the Branch and four other members sought the courts order for a new Interim Management Committee (IMC) to be appointed to handle affairs until fresh elections were held in accordance with the provisions of the GPRTU Constitution.

They also sought further declaration, that a previous purported election held on January 23, 2005 by the National Executive Committee of the GPRTU should be declared null and void.

The Court explained that the two neutral persons should be nominated from the Former Executive Members of the branch and new Executives elected in the January election.

It awarded two million cedis cost against each of the defendants, the National Branch of GPRTU and Mr Freeman Adjei, Chairman, Mr Samuel Gyankamani, Vice Chairman, Mr Charles Doe, Secretary, Mr John Agodoa and Mr Winifred Kwame Kumah, First and Second Trustees, respectively, all co-defendants.
