Court remands 3 suspected drug dealers

A Tarkwa Circuit Court has remanded three suspected drug dealers into prison custody for possessing substances suspected to be narcotic drugs without license.

Their plea was not taken and they will re-appear in Court on the 13th July 2015.

Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the Court presided over by Mr Alex Obeng Asante, that the complainants are security officers while the accused Kwame Appiah, 35, a miner; Kwaku Mintah, 37, a gold dealer; and Atto Nketiah, 25, a trader all of living in Tarkwa.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said on June 19 this year, at about 6:00 am, the complainants and some town volunteers of Aboso, organized a swoop to rid the area of criminals and drug peddlers.

He said during the operation Appiah and Mintah were arrested with quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp at separate places while five wraps of dried leaves in a small polythene bag was also found on Nketiah.

The Prosecutor said the accused persons were escorted to the police station where a formal complaint was lodged and they were detained.

After investigations they were charged with the offence
