Kumasi, April 21, GNA - A Kumasi circuit Court on Monday remanded the proprietor and headmaster of Christ the King International Junior High School in custody for failing to register 106 final students of the school for this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination which began today. The decision to remand Mr Prince Adu- Gyamfi, the proprietor and Mr Agyenim Boateng, headmaster of the school, was to enable them to assist in the arrest of a third suspect, who is on the run, police investigators said.
Police arrested the two on Friday after final year pupils of the school lodged a report that the school failed to register them for the examination, although they had paid registration fees of GH¢25 each to the authorities. They also paid GH¢10 each for mock examinations, which were never held.
The suspects issued index numbers to the pupils, which were found to be fake, after they called at the examination centre. Police Chief Inspector Alice Ansah, the prosecutor, did not read the charges against the suspects but pleaded with the court, presided over by Mr. Eric Baah, to remand them for further investigations. They will reappear before the court on April 29, 2009. 20 April 09
