Court remands armed robber in prison custody

Kumasi, Aug 15, GNA - A Kumasi Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded Kwaku Duah alias 'America' who robbed one Kwaku Boadu of his taxi and an amount of 150 million cedis at gunpoint in prison custody. His plea was not taken and would re-appear on August 20. Two accomplices of Duah, whose names were not immediately available, are on the run.

Police Chief Inspector John Afful told the Court that at about 3 AM on July 28, this year, the accused also a taxi driver, abandoned his car at Dichemso, a suburb of Kumasi and stopped Boadu who was driving towards the Airport Roundabout.

He said immediately Boadu stopped, his two accomplices jumped into the taxi and ordered him to surrender the car and the all the money on him at gunpoint.

Chief Inspector Afful said fearing for his life, Boadu complied and the robbers sped away with the taxi. He said the victim lodged a complaint with the Buffalo Unit of the Police Service who on July 30, this year, arrested Duah at Adum after a hot chase following a report that they were robbing two Togolese traders, using the stolen taxi.
