Court remands barber for stealing

A Tarkwa Circuit Court on Thursday remanded Abdul Karim, a 21 year-old barber, in prison custody for allegedly stealing an LG 21 flat screen television set, a "strong" decoder and amplifier all valued 1,200 Ghana cedis.

The accused, pleaded guilty to stealing and the case has been adjourned to December 12 for judgment.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court, presided by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante, that the complainant, Bawa Sundema Kofi, a barber, lived in the same neighborhood at Tamso new road with the accused.

He said around 0630 hours on November 11 this year, when Bawa went to his barbering shop, he detected that the sliding door to his shop, which has been secured with burglar proof, had been opened and his LG 21 flat screen television set, decoder and amplifier which were placed on a television stand close to the door, had been stolen.

He said on November 22, the complainant had information that his stolen items were in the room of Abdul and he reported the matter to the police.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said the accused was arrested and he led the police to his room where the amplifier and strong decoder were found while the flat screen television set was also retrieved from his barbering shop wrapped in a black polythene bag and hidden behind a wooden cabinet.

Detective Amponsah said in his caution statement to the Police, the accused said that somebody offered the stolen items to him for 300 Ghana Cedis on November 15.
