Court remands carpenter for robbery

The Tema Circuit Court ‘A’ on Thursday remanded into prison custody, Benson Chamah, a 25-year old carpenter for attacking and robbing a driver at Ashaiman.

The court presided over by Mr Kyei Barfo, remanded Chamah to re-appear on April 16, after pleading not guilty to two counts of conspiracy and robbery.

Presenting the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Adolphus Otchere, said on December 13, 2011, Chamah, and Azziz Suleman, who is currently serving a jail term for another offence, conspired to rob unsuspecting people.

Chief Inspector Otchere stated that at about 0330 hours on that fateful day, they attacked Mr Wahab Ibrahim, the complainant, at Lebene Junction at Ashaiman on his way to work.

The court heard that Chamah and Suleman succeeded in inflicting cutlass wounds on the complainant, and robbed him of his G-Tide mobile phone, drivers’ license, voter’s and bank ID cards, as well as an amount of GH¢445.

The prosecutor added that the complainant, who was left to his fate after the incident, reported the case to the Ashaiman Police which arrested Azziz on December 17, 2011, while Chamah was apprehended a week later.**
