Court remands farmer for threatening to kill driver

Akim Oda (E/R), Aug 31, GNA - An Akim Oda Magistrate Court in the Birim Central Municipality has remanded in prison custody, Kwaku Tawiah, a farmer, who allegedly threatened to kill a driver who accused him of stealing 17 bags of corn from his barn.

Tawiah, 27, pleaded not guilty to threat of death and causing damage. The accused would reappear before the court presided over by Albert Owusu Annor on September 19.

Police Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiakorang said the complainant, Seth Appiah, is a driver and lives at Akim Manso with the accused, and that on January 18, this year at about 0220 hours the complainant detected the theft of 17 bags of corn from his barn built in the yard of his house.

Chief Inspector Appiakorang said after conducting his fruitless investigations, Appiah made a report to the Police, adding on January 19, at about 0500 hours, while Appiah was asleep, Tawiah with a cutlass in hand went to bang at his door and ordered him (complainant) to come out of his room.

The prosecutor said Tawiah who accused Appiah of suspecting him to have stolen the 17 bags of corn, then threatened that he would kill complainant and abscond from the town.

As Appiah refused to open the door, Tawiah used the cutlass to damage the trap door, she said, adding that the complainant later reported the matter to the Police who arrested Tawiah on August 2.
