Court remands man in custody for killing wife

Nyinahin (Ash), Feb 1, GNA - A 49-year-old farmer, Kwame Dapaah was on Monday remanded in prison custody by the Nyinahin magistrate court for allegedly killing his wife over the sale of plantain. Dapaah whose plea was not taken will re-appear on February 3. Police Detective Inspector Francis Ofori told the court, presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that Dapaah and the deceased, Akosua Addai who had been married for six years without a child, lived at Nsuatem near Tano-Dumase in the Atwima-Mponua district of Ashanti.

He said on December 8, last year, the deceased went to the farm and harvest some plantain, which she sold to her customers at the village.

The prosecution said the accused demanded part of proceeds from the sale of the plantain to pay his debt but the wife refused and this resulted in exchange of words.

Detective Inspector Ofori said Dapaah was so annoyed that he dashed into his room picked a single barrel gun and shot at the wife, killing her instantly.

He said the incident brought the people rushing to the scene, arrested Dapaah and handed him over to the Nyinahin police who after investigations charged him with the offence.
