A 35-year old Nigerian was on Wednesday put before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a 12 year-old girl at Anyaa.

Promise Chiowa, a scrap dealer, is alleged to have defiled the victim in his wife's room and warned her not to tell anyone else he would kill her.

Chiowa who pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement, however, blamed the devil for his conduct.

The court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh remanded him into Police custody to reappear on August 14.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Moses Atibillah told the court that the complainant is a social worker who resides at Kasoa in the Central Region.

The victim resides with the accused person and his wife at Anyaa.

ACP Atibillah said during the month of June, Chiowa lured the victim into a room belonging to his wife and had sexual intercourse with the victim.

Prosecution said the victim confided in her peers who informed the school authorities about the incident.

The Social Welfare Department in the Ga Central Municipal Assembly was also informed and a complaint was lodged with the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit at Odorkor.

The Police and victim visited the Dansoman Polyclinic and she was examined and treated.

On July 30, the victim identified the accused person and he was arrested.

ACP Atibillah said during interrogation, Chiowa admitted the offence.
