Winneba, (C/R) July 24, GNA - The Winneba District Magistrate’s Court has remanded seven persons suspected to be armed robbers in prison custody but they would appear before a higher court on July 28.
The plea of Stephen Donkor, 22 years, Kweku Mensah, 23, Yaw Arhin, 25, Kwesi Arhin, 22, Adjei Akoe, 24, Kweku Dakor, 37, and Bukasi Fulani, 25, from Gomoa Aboso and Gomoa Akrofo in the Central Region were not taken.
They will appear before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court on July 28.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Richard Samadji told the court, presided over by Mr Charles Owusu Nsiah, that on July 15, at about 0130 hours, the Winneba Police received distressed telephone calls from some people that the road between Gomoa Okyereko and Samaria Prayer Camp had been blocked by some unidentified persons.
Chief Inspector Samadji said the Police rushed to the scene and saw that the road had been blocked with big logs and a KIA Truck parked alongside it with one person suspected to have been hit by a bullet in the chest bleeding.
The prosecution said the victim whose name was not immediately known was rushed to the Winneba Government Hospital by some of the officers while the rest mounted a guard at the place
The prosecution said later some people from nearby Okyereko, who chased the robbers into the bush, arrested Stephen Donkor as one of the robbers and handed him over to the Police.
Chief Inspector Samadji said during interrogated at the Police Station, he admitted the crime and mentioned the names of his accomplices.
The prosecution said Donkor led the Police to Gomoa Aboso and Gomoa Akrofo to arrest six of his accomplices.
