Court remands two Scrap dealers over electric cable theft

A Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Madam Mary Nsenkyire, has remanded two scrap dealers into prison custody over the theft of some electrical cables.

Sadat Musah and Alhassan Mohammed, the accused persons, all residing at Aboabo in Kumasi, pleaded guilty to the charges of stealing, causing unlawful damage and unlawful entry.

They would return to the Court on the 21 May 2019.

An accomplice, whose name was only given as Zuligah, is now at large.

Prosecuting, Chief inspector , Timothy Amoako, told Court that the complainant in the case (name withheld), is the care taker of a house still under construction at Kwanwoma, near Kumasi, the owner of whom is domiciled in the United Kingdom (UK).

He said on the 23rd April this year at about 0200 hours, the accused persons conspired together to steal the electric cables, kept in the house for wiring, valued at GHS 20,000.00.

The Prosecution said they did this by breaking into the house through the main entrance and the ceiling, thereby damaging the metal gate and the ceiling, valued at GHC 6,000.00.

Prosecution told the Court that, accused persons run out of luck when they were seen leaving the scene with the booty.

He said the complainant organised some youth and accosted the accused persons.

Chief Inspector Amoako said they were then escorted to the Ampabame Police Station together with the stolen cables but Zuligah, was able to escape.

He said in their cautioned statement, the accused persons admitted to the offences.

The Prosecution said after investigations they were charged.
