Two persons were on Tuesday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri for conspiracy to commit crime.
The two, George Atakora Fosu, Bar Operator and Papa Nii Ayitey, Mason, were alleged to have conspired and robbed two persons, Joseph Tetteh and Mavis Darko of their mobile phones and an amount of GH¢225.00 at Kasoa Ofaakor.
The two pleaded not guilty to both charges but were remanded into prison custody by the court to reappear on September 29.
The facts of the case are that, the complainant Joseph is a driver, while George is a Bar operator and Papa Nii, a mason, all residing at Ofaakor, a farming community near Kasoa.
It said on September 2, at about 0330 hours, the complainant was driving a pick-up with registration number GR 2314 Z with 12 passengers on board from Awutu Brekum to Ofaakor.
It indicated that on reaching a spot near an orange farm at the outskirt of Ofaakor Township, the road had been blocked with cement blocks and one wheel handcart, but suddenly two men wearing face masks came out to attack them.
The facts stated that all nine persons in the bucket of the car managed to escape, but the complainant was tortured and together with three others in the cabin were robbed of their personal belongings including two mobile phones and an amount of GH¢225.00.
The complainant made a report on the same day to the police at Kasoa. On September 5, the complainant led the police to arrest George as one of the robbers.
According to the facts of the case, on September 8, Papa Nii was arrested following intercepted recordings in which he claimed that George had engaged him and others for the attack but he withdrew his involvement before the operation commenced.
It stated that George however refuted the allegation and stressed that he and the complainant knew each other very well because the complainant lives about four houses from his shop.
It said George also said that he had been implicated in the robbery case because of a chieftaincy dispute at Ofaakor between his family and that of the complainant’s.
