A Circuit Court at Fiapre near Sunyani on Monday remanded two suspected armed robbers into prison custody for traveling with arms at Kokrosua near Dormaa-Ahenkro.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani that the plea of Issaka Mohammed, alias, Feekey, 37 and Amadu Dawda, 29 were not taken.
They were charged with possessing arms without authority and would re-appear at the same court on December 21.
ASP Tawiah said on December 2, at about 1530 hours the Police at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Dormaa Central Municipality on their usual patrol duties spotted H100 mini bus loaded with passengers towards Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa East District.
He said upon a search the police discovered a black polythene bag at the booth of the vehicle and during interrogation it was realized that the items belonged to Mohammed.
ASP Tawiah added that the items included one G3 assault raffle loaded with 18 live ammunition, a bullet proof vest and one Custom, Exercise and Preventive Service (CEPS) camouflage jacket.
He said Mohammed attempted to run away but was arrested by the Police and upon interrogation mentioned the name of Dawda, the owner of the items, who boarded another vehicle and was following them.
ASP Tawiah said Dawda also was arrested and they were handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and eventually brought before court.
