Court remands two traders for robbery

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Isaac Agyemang and Desmond Opoku both traders into police custody for alleged conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

The two accused persons pleaded not guilty and is expected to reappear in court on July 17.

Chief Superintendent of Police Duuti Tuaruka told the court that the complainants in the case are Boakye Boampong, a Research Fellow and Kwasi Boampong Boakye, an electrical engineer.

He said on June 16, at about 2100 hours, complainants returned home from work and when they got to their entrance, Kwasi Boampong Boakye alighted from their Hyundai Creta 4x4 to open the gate for Boakye Boampong to drive inside when they were attacked.

He said the accused persons, who attacked the complainants who were in masks were also armed with guns.

“The accused persons collected Complainants’ iPhone 5 and 6, an Acer laptop, an HP i3 laptop, a wallet containing GH¢ 200.00, 75 pounds, a U.K Barclays bank card, a U.K driver’s license, an Olympus 712 recorder, a Diesel wrist watch and a Hyundai Creta 4x4 with registration number GW 5630-17,” he added.

He said the accused persons used their guns to hit the complainants on their heads and in the process injured them.

The Prosecution said the complainants reported the case to the police and they were issued with police medical forms to attend hospital for treatment but on June 18 accused persons were arrested at their hideout at McCarthy Hill, a search conducted in their rooms revealed wrist watch and laptop bag of the complainants.

The Accused were sent to the Sakumono Police Station and during interrogation, Isaac told police that, on June 16 at about 2300 hours, his friends, Kwaku and Dela brought a 4x4 vehicle with a 2017 registration to his house to pick him out but he declined and on June 17, he came out of his house and saw the laptop bag with the wrist watch in it.
