Kumasi, July 5, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court has sentenced a 19-year-old caretaker to five years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing. Abdul Wahab was said to have stolen video cassette re-winders, a television set, a rice cooker, decorative lamps, ceramics, 15 pieces of wax print, two telephones and cooking utensils, all estimated at 88.6 million cedis.

He pleaded guilty to the charges. Police Chief Inspector Kuffuor Boateng told the court, presided over by Mr. Ernest Yao Obimpeh that Mr Mohammed Briamah Yusif, the complainant, is a building contractor who has a house at Daban new site in Kumasi and employed the accused as the caretaker. He said the complainant lives at Zongo and goes to the Daban house once a while.

Chief Inspector Boateng said on May 30, this year, the complainant went to the house and detected that these items were missing and when he confronted Wahab he admitted taking the items. He said the complainant therefore handed the accused person to the police who after interrogation, charged him with the offence. The prosecutor said the police have so far recovered the television, rice cooker and a bowl.
