Court sentences plumber for stealing

Assin Foso (C/R), Oct. 5, GNA- A plumber from Assin-Manso, who broke into his nephew's house and stole his belongings, worth several millions of cedis, was on Wednesday sentenced to two years imprisonment by a district magistrate's court at Assin-Foso. Kwame Anning, pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing and was also ordered to pay a restitution of GH=A2695 to Mr Kofi Mintah, the complainant.

Chief Inspector, Emmanuel Owusu, had earlier told the court presided over by Mr Joseph Blay, that on March 1, 2007, Anning who is an uncle to Mr Mintah, broke into his (Mr Mintah's) house at Winneba in his absence and made away with the items all totalling GH=A2695. He stolen items include assorted men and women clothes, a sound system, assorted drinks and a standing fan, all worth GH=A2695 Anning was later arrested upon a tip-off and charged with the offence.

In a related development, the court fined a pig farmer from Assin-Domenase, whose strayed pigs caused public nuisance 20 Ghana cedis.

Kwesi Tetteh, who pleaded guilty, will go to prison for one month in default of the fine.

Mr. Moses Adu-Kuei, an Environmental health officer, at Assin-Domenase, told the court that he cautioned Tetteh to confine his pigs, following persistent reports that the convict allowed about 30 pigs to stray causing nuisance in the town. He said the convict was arrested on August 31, 2007 when a routine visit conducted by health officers indicated that the convict had not adhered to the warning.
