Takoradi, June 27, GNA - The Takoradi Circuit Court 93A" on Monday sentenced Robert Otoo, an unemployed, to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour for unlawful entry and stealing a mobile phone and cash of 500 Ghana Cedis.
The accused pleaded guilty to stealing the phone but denied knowledge of the cash.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Theodore Alhassan said both the accused and Daniel Holyford Hackman, the complainant, lived in the same neighbourhood at Kajebil near Takoradi.
He said at about 02.00 hours on June 17 this year, the complainant detected that somebody had broken into his room and stolen the items.
Inspector Alhassan said after raising the alarm about the theft, a friend informed him that he saw the accused trying to sell a mobile phone.
He said the complainant traced the accused and the phone was found on him during a search.
The accused was, therefore, arrested and taken to the Kwesimintsim Police Station where he admitted stealing the phone in his cautioned statement to the police.
