Accra, April 9, GNA - The Madina Divisional Police Command, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Paul Ayitey said at the weekend that the Division has apprehended a number of hardened criminals who are facing prosecution.
This he said has created a sign of relief in Ashale Botwe, Adenta, Ashongman, Musuku and Madina, where people hitherto were living in fear. CSP Ayitey made this known during a get-together organised for personnel of the Ghana Police Service at the division at Madina in Accra. He said in 2010 the division recorded significant reduction in violent crime, both residential and highway robbery from the 184 cases in 2009 to 126 cases, representing a decrease of 32 per cent. Car snatching also went down by 48.3 per cent during the period under review.
Defilement and rape cases went down by 13. 8 per cent, causing harm, 40.8 per cent, threat of harm, 65.9 per cent and narcotic cases 65 per cent. CSP Ayitey said the division in its commitment to flush out all manner of criminal gangs, has not limited its crime fighting activities to the division alone, but dared into other jurisdictions to effect arrests of armed robbers and illegal weapon manufacturers.
This, he said, led to the arrest of five criminals with 71 locally manufactured pistols from Sefwi Juaboso and Kumasi. A number of prizes were awarded to present and retired hardworking personnel of the division.
The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander Deputy Commissioner of Police Rose Bio Atinga and the Deputy Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Christian Yorhuno received awards for their dedicated service to the Region.
