Driver dies on the spot in an accident

Takoradi Dec.29,- GNA - A driver of an Urvan bus on Thursday died on the spot when his vehicle run into the trailer of an articulated truck at Effia near Takoradi.

Two passengers on board the Urvan bus that was carrying sawn timber sustained serious injuries.

Bystanders rushed the injured to Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital where they were admitted in critical condition.

Unconfirmed reports say one of the injured persons died soon after admission.

Meanwhile, the body of the driver has been deposited at the mortuary of the hospital.

Their names were not readily available.

An eyewitness told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the accident occurred around 0500 hours He said the articulated truck, belonging to Maesrk Ghana Limited was driving from Kojokrom to Takoradi followed by the Urvan bus that was driving at top speed.

The eyewitness said the articulated truck negotiated a curve at Effia to enable it enter a vehicle washing bay. He said the driver of the Urvan bus failed to stop and hit the trailer of the articulated truck while it was entering the washing bar. The eyewitness said about 0600 hrs after the dead and the injured had been conveyed to hospital, Michael Sambil-Kolog, the driver of the articulated truck reported the accident to the Effiakuma Police and was placed in custody.
