A commercial driver, Prince Kweku Agyarko was on Wednesday fined GH¢960 by the Cape Coast Magistrate’s Court for careless and inconsiderate driving and also causing damage to an electric pole.
In default, he will spend a month in prison.
In addition, he is to pay GH¢3,000 being the cost of the electric pole or in default serve two months in prison with hard labour.
Agyarko pleaded guilty to the charges and was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Samuel Addo told the court presided over by Miss Mercy Adei Kotei that the accused on Sunday April 14 this year at about 1330 hours driving Mercedes Benz trailer truck with the registration number GN 8063-11.
He said the truck was loaded with mining products from Kumasi towards Tarkwa and on reaching Cape Coast 3rd Ridge Junction Agyarko lost control of the vehicle and as a result ran into a ditch.
Chief inspector Addo said the convict caused damage to a fiber electric pole erected by the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly on the roadside at the cost GH¢3,000.
He said none of the occupants in the truck got injured but Agyarko reported himself to the Police and he was charged after investigations.
