Driver granted bail for causing unlawful harm

An Accra circuit court on Thursday granted a GHc50,000 bail to one Denis Asare, a trader, with one surety, who intentionally and unlawfully caused harm to one David Tettey Amatey, at Tesano.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, and is expected to reappear before the court on November 18.

Police Chief Inspector Jubiok Michaels told the Court that the complainant is a trader who resides at Abeka while the accused person is also a trader and resident of Accra New Town.

He said both of them are regular customers of a popular drinking spot called Kardolf located at Tesano.

The prosecution said about a year ago, both the accused and the complainant had a confrontation, which brought rivalry between the complainant’s friends based at Abeka, and the accused persons friends based at Nima and Mamobi

He said on August 1, the factions had another confrontation at the drinking spot which resulted in a clash, and the accused person and his friends disengaged and planned for revenge.

Police Chief Inspector Michaels said on September 6, the accused person organised 10 men armed with cutlasses and other offensive weapons and stormed Kardolf for a special operation.

He said the accused and four others now at large captured the complainant and butchered him with a sharp cutlass, which resulted in multiple cutlass wounds on him.

The prosecution told the court that a taxi driver, one Kwame Ahorsoa, who pulled up to assist the complainant had his vehicle smashed and had to abandon his vehicle to save his life.

He said the taxi driver, however, managed to rush the victim to the Korle Bu emergency ward for admission.

He said on October 17, the accused person was arrested from his hideout and brought before the court after investigations.
