One Selorm Otibo, a driver, appeared at an Accra Circuit Court on Monday for conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretence.

He was said to have conspired with one Philip now at large and defrauded one Amma Tweneboa-Koduah of GH? 34, 700.00.

Selorm pleaded not guilty to the charges and is to reappear on September 29.

Police Superintendent Faustina Agyeiwaa Kodua Andoh-Kwofie told the court that the complainant is a banker and lives at Ashongman, while Selorm is a driver, while Philip is a self acclaimed businessman, and they both live at Ashale Botwe.

She said on June 22, the complainant was in the office at East Legon when Philip called her on phone and introduced himself as a former staff of the Tema Oil Refinery and a long time friend of her.

The prosecution said Philip told the complainant that he now works with Halliburton Ghana Limited, an oil company based in Takoradi and that there was a purchase and supply contract of DX2 oil filters at the said company.

Philip said he would offer the contract to the complainant and later directed her to purchase 50 pieces of the oil filters from Selorm for supply to Halliburton Company for a higher profit.

Police Superintendent Andoh-Kwofie said the complainant contacted Selorm as directed and demanded the amount as cost of the 50 pieces of the supposed oil filters.

She said the complainant sent her husband, a complainant in the case who met Selorm at Weija and handed over the money to him and he also delivered the 50 pieces of the supposed DX2 oil filters to the witness on behalf of the complainant.

She said the oil filters were sent for supply to Halliburton office at Takoradi but the complainant had the shock of her life when she was told that there was no contract for supply of any oil filters and also that the items supplied to her was not oil filters.

The prosecution told the court that a report was made to the police and Selorm was later arrested when he was involved in a similar offence at Madina Police Station where he was identified by the witness.
