Martey Tei Kotey, a driver, has been put before an Accra Circuit Court for the murder five years ago of Michael Patrick Baah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Chairman of the Dome Kwabenya Constituency.
Kotey’s plea on the charge of murder was not taken.
He has, however, denied the charge of possessing one wrapper of narcotic drugs (cannabis) without lawful authority.
The court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri has remanded Kotey aka Mohammed into prison custody to re-appear on December 4.
It further turned down a bail application put in by Mr Jah Josiah who represented Kotey aka Commando.
Prosecuting, Chief Superintendent of Police Duuti Tuaruka, told the court that on June 9, 2009, Mr Baah was attacked at his residence and murdered in cold blood.
He said on November 16 the Police had information that the accused person was overheard telling people that he was behind the death of the deceased and stated further that he was a contract killer.
Unknown to Kotey, the conversation was recorded by a witness in the case who forwarded the tape to the Police.
The prosecution said the witness was advised by the Police to get closer Kotey to secure more information in respect of the killings and other related matters.
Kotey further revealed on the tape that he was a contract killer and he was prepared to go into execution if only he was contracted to do so.
On November 17 this year, the Police moved in to arrest Kotey at Nima and when he was searched one wrapper of Indian hemp was found in his pocket.
Chief Supt. Tuaruka said Kotey claimed ownership of the Indian hemp but could not lead the Police to his source of supply.
