A 36-year-old driver would spend the next 192 months in prison after an Accra Circuit court found him guilty of defiling a 10-year-old girl.
The convict, Offei Mensah defiled the victim on 11th September 2014 at Sukura, Accra.
Mensah, who appeared before the court, admitted the offence and pleaded guilty.
He was accordingly convicted on his own plea.
At the initial stages of the trial Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah said the complainant, Comfort Agbovi is a drinking bar operator at Mataheko and grandmother of the victim, while the convict Offei Mensah is a resident of Lartebiokoshie in Accra and customer of the complainant.
According to ASP Acquah, on 11 September 2014, Madam Agbovi took the victim to the shop at Sukura in the morning.
She further said that when Madame Agbovi got home at around 3pm, she was told that the victim was nowhere to be found.
The next morning, she stated, Madam Agbovi asked one Linda Amenginu to buy her charcoal, adding that Linda on her way saw the victim lying on a wooden bench in front of a certain house in the same vicinity.
She brought the victim home and when Madam Agbovi questioned the victim, she revealed her ordeal at the hands of Mensah.
The victim, according to ASP Acquah, told her grandmother that Mensah met her in the vicinity, lured her into an uncompleted building and had sexual intercourse with her.
A report was made to the Dansoman DOVVSU and the victim was issued with medical report form to attend hospital for examination and treatment.
Mensah was consequently arrested and arraigned before court.
