A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced Munkaila Samed, a driver of the La-Casera Drinks Distribution Company, to five years imprisonment for stealing GH¢4,955.00 from his employers.

The money had been left on the front seat of his vehicle and under his direct care by a salesman of the company.

Samed pleaded guilty to the crime.

Police Superintendent Regina Addo-Yobo told the court presided over by Justice D.W.P Amedior that both the convict and the salesman are employees of the distribution company in Kumasi.

On December 21, last year, they were out on their usual business rounds, supplying goods to customers.

She said when they came to Allabar, the day’s sales amounting to GH¢4,955.00, was left in the care of Samed by the salesman as he got down to see one of the customers.

He returned only to discover that the convict had driven away with the vehicle, which was later found abandoned at the Roman Hill.

A formal report was made to the Zongo Police Station.

The prosecution said Samed who had gone into hiding at Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo Region was arrested on January 9.

He admitted the offence during interrogation and said he used part of the stolen money to rent a room at Techiman and bought furnishing.
