Akyem Swedru Mar. 7, GNA- A circuit court at Akyem Swedru on Monday sentenced Edmund Acquah, a 22-year-old driver, to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 15-year-old girl.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ayamga Yakubu told the court presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that the victim was a schoolgirl residing at Asamankese with her elder sister, the complainant while Acquah stayed at La in Accra.

The prosecutor said at about 0830 hours on February 26, the complainant, a drinking spot keeper, asked the victim to run the facility while she (complainant) went to transact business in town. ASP Yakubu said Acquah visited the spot and bought one thousand cedis worth of "Pusher Gin Bitters" and after taking the drink demanded to have sex with the girl.

The prosecutor said the victim turned down the request but the convict locked the door to the spot and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

He said after satisfying himself, Acquah warned the victim not to disclose the ordeal to anyone but the girl informed her sister about it. ASP Yakubu said the convict was arrested in the evening of the incident when he went to the spot again.
