Keta, Sept.1, GNA - A Keta Circuit Court has sentenced a 35-year-old driver Simon Dunku to two years imprisonment for assaulting a policeman. Dunku was sentenced on his own plea for resisting arrest, assaulting a public officer and causing unlawful harm.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Kofi Frimpong, told the Court Presided over by Mr. Mohammed Nabon, that on the morning of August 30, this year, the accused was in charge of an Opel Caravan Taxi cab. He said the accused drove recklessly in a crowded area near the Customs, Exercise and Preventive Service (CEPS) canteen, near the Aflao border, and nearly knocked down a motorist.

The prosecution said Dunku picked a quarrel with the motorist and Police Corporal Simon Glago, on duty in the area rushed to the scene and arrested Dunku for reckless driving.

Police Chief Inspector Frimpong said Dunku resisted the arrest and punched the policeman on his left chin, and when Police Corporal Glago fell down, Dunku pounced on him until some people came to the rescue of the policeman who was bleeding.

He said Dunku took to his heels but was chased arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.

The prosecution said Police Corporal Glago was treated and discharged at the Ketu District Hospital at Aflao.
