Driver remanded for allegedly stealing GH¢18,700

Kumasi, April 30, GNA - A Kumasi Circuit Court on Monday remanded Thomas Agyei 31, a driver of Royal Bow Company Limited in Kumasi into prison custody for allegedly stealing GH¢18,700 belonging to the company.

He pleaded guilty and would re-appear on May 7.

Samuel Asare 34, an Aluminum window manufacturer jointly charged with Agyei pleaded not guilty and was granted GH¢20,000 bail to re-appear on May 7.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Kwame Owusu Manu told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpe that in the afternoon of July 7, 2006, the complainant, who is the Manager of the company and another employee together with the accused went on their daily rounds to collect monies from their customers in a Nissan Pick-up driven by the accused.

He said during the rounds the complainant left the money collected with the accused at Adum in Kumasi to collect more money but when the complainant returned the driver had absconded with the vehicle and money.

The prosecution said a report was made to the police and later the vehicle was found parked at Ridge Park near Danyame in Kumasi. He said on March 26 this year, the complainant saw the accused at Adum and with the assistance of some people arrested him to the Central Police Station.

The prosecution said during interrogation, the accused mentioned Asare who resides at TUC in Kumasi, as the one who convinced him to steal the money and use it to travel abroad. He said the police arrested Asare and after investigations they were charged with the offence.
