Takoradi, May 11, GNA - A Takoradi Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced John Quarcoo, a 21-year old driver's mate to seven years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 15-year old girl at Yabiw near Takoradi. The accused pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Alice Parker-Wilson, said at about 1900 hours on January 18 this year, the victim, who was staying with her sister-in-law at Yabiw went out to witness a wedding ceremony in the town and went straight to bed after the ceremony.
She said early in the morning the next day, the sister-in-law saw blood stains on the cloths of the victim and questioned her. Chief Inspector Parker-Wilson said the victim told the sister-in-law that, the previous night, the accused called her to an obscure place at the Yabiw market and had sexual intercourse with her. She said the sister-in-law reported the matter to the Police and the accused was arrested and in his caution statement admitted having sexual intercourse with the victim and that he did not force her to do so. 11 May 10
