The Adentan Magistrate’s Court in Accra has remanded a 21-year-old driver’s mate in police custody for conspiracy to steal a tricycle.
Isaac Agbodza, the driver’s mate, and an accomplice, John Asiedu, appeared before the court in March 2023 and were granted bail for stealing, but the third accused, Gideon Asante, is said to be at large.
Agbodza, who jumped bail, was arrested by the complainant through a bench warrant and was taken to court, presided over by Nancy Adadey, on April 30.
Agbodza is to reappear before court on May 28.
Chief Inspector Ebenezer Addo, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, Torkutse Yao Elolo, is a mechanic.
He said the accused is Isaac Agbodza, a driver’s mate, while his accomplice is John Asiedu, a labourer, and Gideon Asante is at large, and they all reside at Royal Junction at Oyibi.
Chief Inspector Addo said the owner of the stolen tricycle, Eric Boateng, works with the complainant to supply bags of sachet water to customers within the Oyibi township.
The court heard that Asiedu introduced Asante to the complainant and his boss, Eric Boateng, under the pretext of assisting in supplying water to customers.
Chief Insp. Addo said that Asante loaded 20 bags of water into the company’s Lujin Tricycle and left under the pretext of distributing the water to customers.
The court heard that later, Asante, Agbodza, and the two others sold the tricycle loaded with sachet water at a scrap yard in Ajiringanor for GH¢1,200.
Chief Insp. Addo said the case was reported to the police, and when Asante was arrested, he denied the offence in his investigation statement.
Chief Inspector Addo said when Agbodza was arrested, he admitted to the offence in his caution statement, saying he led Asante to Ajiringanor to sell the tricycle.
He said efforts were ongoing to arrest Asante and that the stolen tricycle had been retrieved.
